Police: Alert neighbor foils business burglary

May 16, 2013

Two Boise men are now charged with attempted burglary, a felony, and possession of burglary tools, a misdemeanor.

According to Boise police, Cody Tennant, 27, and Spencer Sanders, 29, were allegedly found on the roof of a retail outlet in the 600 block of South Vista Avenue. Police believe the two were planning to burglarize the store.

A neighbor of the business saw the men and called dispatchers at 5:12 a.m., concerned about their presence.

Police set up a perimeter around the building. Then when daylight arrived, officers used a ladder truck to access the roof and take both men into custody.

Police thanked the concerned neighbor in a press release.

"This neighbor saw something they thought was suspicious activity in progress, they called 911 and we took it from there," said Lt. Andy Johnson in the release. "We believe, thanks to that citizen's help, we prevented at least one crime, saved at least one local business from losses, thanks to a citizen who cared enough to pay attention."
