Junior Justeen Simons scored on an error in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Eagle a 4-3 victory over Rocky Mountain in the 5A District Three softball championship game Friday at Centennial High.

The two teams played to a 3-3 tie through eight innings before the game was suspended due to darkness Thursday night. When play resumed Friday, Rocky Mountain was the first to take to the plate, but Eagle pitcher Bradie Fillmore retired the side to bring up Eagle’s half of the inning.

Simons started on second base as part of the international tiebreaker rule and scored on the Mustangs’ first at-bat by senior MacKenzi Corta. Both teams advance to the state tournament May 17-18 at Ramsey Park in Coeur d’Alene.

“It was kind of hard at school trying to pay attention. It felt like a really long, dragged out game,” Fillmore said. “I wish we would have just finished it yesterday, but I like the result of today, too.”
