2013 heats up Boise could hit 90 sunday

May 10, 2013

An early summer

Boiseans hoping to spend their Mother's Day in the sun are in luck. Temperatures will break 90 degrees this weekend for the first time in 2013. The National Weather Service predicts highs of 89 on Saturday and possibly 92 on Sunday.

Above the norm

Average temperatures for Boise in May hover in the low 70s. May 12 has an average temperature of 70. The record high for the month was set in 2003, at 99 degrees.

And back to norm

Next week, the Treasure Valley could get a temporary respite. Meteorologists are forecasting possible thunderstorms Sunday night and Monday. Highs will dip back into the 70s next week.

Sun safety

The National Weather Service encourages people to enjoy the heat safely. Those with outside plans this weekend are cautioned to use sunscreen, drink plenty of water and watch for signs of overheating, especially in children and the elderly.
