Mountain biker crashes into ravine near Bogus Basin Road

May 8, 2013

Ada County Paramedics retrieved a cyclist who reportedly fell from a mountain biking trail below Bogus Basin Road Wednesday afternoon, according to the Ada County Sheriff's Office.

The cyclist, a man in his 70s, was descending the trail on his mountain bike when he crashed and fell into a ravine nine to 10 miles up Bogus Basin Road, paramedics said. He was about 200 feet down the ravine. He appeared to be an experienced cyclist, paramedics said.

A fellow cyclist who had been riding with the man called 911 after the crash.

Steep terrain complicated the rescue efforts, paramedics said. A high angle rescue team was used to reach the man and get him up to Bogus Basin Road to the ambulance.

The cyclist was in stable condition when he was transported to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise.
