Crash causes grass fire in Meridian

May 8, 2013

Personnel from the Ada County Sheriff's Office and the Meridian Fire Department were responding to a rollover and grass fire south of West Overland Road on South Black Cat Road at around 4:20 p.m. Wednesday.

Here's what happened, according to the sheriff's office:

• The male driver of a pickup heading north an Black Cat lost control and went off the side of the road just before the I-84 overpass.

• The pickup rolled over and hit a power pole.

• The pickup caught on fire, power lines were knocked down and a grass fire started.

According to Idaho Power's automated outage line, there was a power failure that occurred at 4:15 because of a power pole crash and affected hundreds of customers in Meridian and Nampa.

The sheriff's office said the pickup's driver was able to get out of the vehicle and didn't appear to have suffered serious injuries.

Black Cat was closed in both directions between the Interstate 84 overpass and Lamont Road.
