T.K. Kim advanced to sectional qualifying Monday by shooting a 5-under-par 66 at Ridgecrest Golf Club in Nampa. Kim was the medalist in the local qualifier. Jesse Heinly of Bend, Ore., also advanced with a 68. They'll participate in a sectional qualifier June 3. Kim plans to play at Tumble Creek Golf Club in Cle Elum, Wash. The U.S. Open is June 13-16 at Merion in suburban Philadelphia.

• Kim has been selected to participate in the NCAA West Regional Championships on May 16-18 at Palouse Ridge in Pullman. He is only the fifth Boise State golfer selected for the tournament, joining David Lebeck (1993), Jarrod Warner (1998), Graham DeLaet (2003, 2004 and 2006) and Troy Merritt (2008). The top individual not on one of the five advancing teams at each NCAA regional site will earn a trip to the NCAA Championships on May 28-June 2 at the Capital City Club Crabapple Course in Atlanta.
