Vehicle hits child on bike in Nampa

— Nampa police are investigating a crash that injured a 5-year-old boy Friday evening.

Police said they responded to a crash involving a vehicle and a bicycle at 6:10 p.m. at the intersection of 11th Avenue and 2nd Street North.

The preliminary investigation found that the boy was riding his bike west on 2nd Street and rode into the path of traffic on 11th Avenue. Witnesses told police that the boy did not stop before he entered the path of two vehicles heading south on 11th Avenue.

According to witnesses, the first vehicle was able to stop, but blocked the view of the second vehicle, which hit the boy.

Police said the boy was not wearing a helmet and suffered serious head injuries. He was taken to a Boise hospital.

The crash was being investgated by the Nampa Police S.T.E.P Team. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program). No citations had been issued, and the crash was still under investigation late Friday
