Meridian man shot while cleaning gun

A 76-year old Meridian man accidentally shot himself while cleaning a handgun Thursday night, according to Meridian police.

The man was attempting to unload the gun inside his home when it went off.

The bullet passed through the webbing of his left hand, but did not hit any bone, police said. He was treated and released at a local hospital.

The man will not face any charges. Police are not releasing his name.
