Idaho colleges roundup: Boise State's Bettles lands spot in NCAA tennis field

Mountain West singles champion will be in tourney that starts May 22.


Junior Andy Bettles will compete as one of 64 singles players in the NCAA Championships on May 22-27 in Champaign, Ill. Bettles is the 11th player in Boise State history to be selected to compete in the singles tournament. The native of Somerset, England, was 29-9 this season with a 22-6 dual-match record. He is 7-6 against opponents in the ITA Top 125. Damian Hume competed in the tournament last season, falling in the first round.

IDAHO MEN'S GOLF: The Vandals finished fifth at the WAC Championships at Rio Secco Golf Club in Henderson, Nev. Senior Gordon Webb tied for fifth after a final-round 75 gave him a 54-hole total of 223 - five strokes back of medalist Paul McDonnell of UT Arlington. New Mexico State won the team title with an 887, followed by UT Arlington (893), San Jose State (900), UT San Antonio (903) and Idaho (910).
