West Boise man loses everything, including dog, in house fire

April 28, 2013

A trailer home was destroyed Saturday night by a fire that started in the kitchen, according to Boise Fire Battalion Chief Jim Gross. The cause remains under investigation.

The fire was reported at 8:38 p.m. in the 10000 block of Tahiti Street, just west of Five Mile and south of Ustick.

Gross said the resident, described as a man in his 30s, wasn't home at the time of the fire. But his dog was, and it perished in the blaze.

The house had a large number of personal items, and the floor was in disrepair, making it hazardous for firefighters who went inside to fight the fire, Gross said.

"The fire consumed most of the kitchen," Gross said. "The trailer was a total loss."

The man displaced by the fire is receiving assistance from the Boise Fire Burnout Fund, and the Red Cross of Idaho.
