April 27, 2013

The field of middle school finalists in the Department of Energy National Science Bowl has narrowed, and now only 16 middle school teams remain in the competition. The Idaho team is from the Treasure Valley Math and Science Center in Boise.

The competition continues this weekend with the top two middle school teams facing off at the National Building Museum on Monday morning. The top eight teams will each receive $1,000 for their school’s science department and the top three teams will receive trophies and individual medals.

The top two middle school teams will face off at the National Building Museum on Monday, April 29 beginning at 9:30 a.m. EDT. The championship rounds of competition on Monday morning will be followed by an awards ceremony.

This year’s competition began with more than 5,000 middle school students on 1,023 teams participating in 46 regional competitions in 33 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
