The Boise-based bowl game will kickoff at 3:30 p.m. at Bronco Stadium. It is the second ESPN bowl game and third bowl game overall of the season.
The 2013 game will be the 17th game for bowl.
The Mountain West replaced the Western Athletic Conference, which had participated in the bowl since 2001. Boise State is a member of the Mountain West. The Broncos have not played in the game since 2005 when they lost to Boston College.
Utah State (WAC) defeated Toledo (MAC) 41-15 in the 2012 game. ESPN attracted 2.8 million viewers for the game. The crowd was 29,243.
We are thrilled to once again be a part of the opening day of bowl season, Kevin McDonald, the game's executive director, sad in a statement. This time slot has treated our bowl and our fans well. We look forward to continuing our history of solid ratings, while we are also excited our fans get to take part in the launch of post season college football.
