Boise City Council member to celebrate Walk 150 with local students

April 23, 2013

Neighbors are invited to join 30 kids after school for a playground walk with Boise City Council member TJ Thomson at 3:30 p.m. April 24 at the Whitney Community Center, 1609 S. Owyhee St.

The Walk 150 event is being held in conjunction with Unplug and Be Outside week.

For Walk 150, Mayor David H. Bieter has pledged to walk 150 miles in honor of the city’s sesquicentennial. Participants are urged to log their miles at www.walk150.org.

Unplug and Be Outside is a weeklong series of free family activities intended to get kids active. The program sponsor is Be Outside Idaho, a statewide coalition of agencies and organizations focusing on the healthy benefits of play. For a calendar of events, see www.unplugandbeoutside.com.

The kids are participants in the Whitney Community Center after-school program operated by Boise Parks & Recreation.
