Boise Y finishes 16th at national swim meet

Fifteen swimmers represented the Boise YMCA at the 2013 YMCA National Swimming Championships in Greensboro, N.C. Rocky Mountain High's Alex Trompke led the way with a fifth-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke in 49.85 seconds in a field that included more than 1,500 swimmers and 250 teams. Four other Boise Y swimmers advanced to their respective finals: Centennial's James Nguyen (200 breaststroke, eighth, 2:02.71; 100 breaststroke, 11th, 57.08); Boise's Kevin Fanter (200 breaststroke, 11th, 2:02.10; 100 breaststroke, 13th, 57.52); Centennial's Tanner Schelling (200 freestyle, 12th, 1:41.15); and North Junior High's Abbey Erwin (1,650 freestyle, 15th, 17:08.22). Relay finalists included the sixth-place 200 medley team of Trompke, Fanter, Schelling and Kristian Almberg (Eagle); and the 13th-place 800 freestyle team of Trompke, Schelling, Almberg and Justice Kramer (Centennial).
