Kenneth Aebischer and Eric C. Nasker are being held in the Ada County Jail on felony charges of malicious injury to property after police say the pair were caught trying to steal wiring from a construction site in west Boise Friday morning.
Police say called Ada County dispatchers to a report of a theft in progress near the intersection of Overland Road and South Goldking Way (just east of Five Mile Road) around 1 a.m. Police arrived to find two men underneath a construction trailer using a flashlight and tools to cut wires loose, according to reports.
Police say the 44-year-old Aebischer and 30-year-old Nasker cut wiring away from several electrical meters and wiring boxes at the site, with the intention to sell that wiring for scrap. The damage to the boxes, which are worth over $1,000 each, requires them to be replaced, which is why the men were charged with felony malicious injury to property.
Aebischer and Nasker , who live in Garden City, were also charged with misdemeanor counts of petit theft for taking the wires, police said.
Aebischer and Nasker will make their initial court appearances Friday afternoon.
The crime of malicious injury to property is punishable by up to five years in prison.
