A $200,000 project Two of the artists being considered will give public presentations this week.
Gail Simpson from Actual Size, a team from Madison, Wis., will present at noon Friday in the Foothills Room at Boise City Hall.
Shane Allbritton from Metalab, a team from Houston, will present at 4 p.m. Monday in the Foothills Room.
Volkan Alkanoglut, a third finalist, gave a presentation in March.
The public’s say Proposals will go on display in City Hall and at boiseartsandhistory.org on May 11. The public will have two weeks to comment. A local panel will then meet to choose a winner, taking the public’s feedback into account.
Why no local artists? By law, when the budget for an art project exceeds $25,000, the city must put out a national call for applicants. Five local artists applied; none had experience working on a project of this scale, said Karen Bubb, city public art manager.
