A 32-year-old Nampa woman was booked into the Canyon County Jail Wednesday afternoon after police say she was caught driving under the influence of prescription medication twice within a 24-hour period.
Here's what Nampa police say happened:
On Tuesday afternoon, a concerned person called police and said Ilia B. Dawson was driving all over the road, bouncing off curbs and nearly causing numerous accidents. Police arrested Dawson at 4:13 p.m. and charged her with DUI while under the influence of prescription medication. She was not booked into jail at that time.
Dawson was arrested again at 2:52 p.m. Wednesday and also charged with DUI while under the influence of prescription medication. She was then booked into jail and was released on bond Wednesday night.
Nampa police and other Treasure Valley law enforcement agencies are using the case as a reminder to people who take prescription medications that some of those medications will impair their ability to drive. Police also say they have seen a vast increase in the abuse of prescription medication.
