Cash, recognition from the Boise Police Department and other perks await whoever offers up the winning name for the newest member of the force.
A 2-year-old Lab and border collie mix has a bright future as a drug-detection dog, a certified Boise police K9 trainer says. But this future shining star of the department, currently receiving POST-certified training with an officer / trainer, still lacks something he needs before launching his career in law enforcement.
This fella needs a name. That's where you come in.
A contest sponsored by Boise police invites you to submit your choice for what the department's newest service dog should be called. Just post your suggestion through a comment on the Boise police K9 Facebook page at http://tinyurl.com/d9ez8k5. Police also ask to share a story, if there is one, behind the name. You can enter until midnight April 19.
As of Tuesday afternoon, it already looked like those to pick the name have their work cut out for them. There were a host of worthy contenders, including the particularly awesome "Thor."
Besides bragging rights, here's what the winner will receive:
$100 cash award
Opportunity to meet and have a photo taken with the dog and his handler
Opportunity to be a guest at a BPD K9 training
BPD K9 t-shirt
BPD K9 stickers
Certificate of Appreciation from Boise Chief of Police Michael Masterson.
Prizes and recognition will also be bestowed upon the two runners-up.
Look for the winning name May 1 on the Facebook page. The winners will be contacted through Facebook.
