The Broncos avoided a sweep in their Mountain West opening series by defeating New Mexico 13-0 in five innings Sunday in Albuquerque. Devon Bridges was 3-for-3 with five RBIs for BSU (17-19, 1-2 MW) and, with her 41st RBI of the season, became the first Bronco with a third season of at least 40.
BSU WOMEN'S TENNIS: The Broncos lost at San Diego State 6-1 in Mountain West action. Sandy Vo gave BSU (10-7, 1-2 MW) its lone point with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles. The No. 1 doubles team of Marlena and Manuela Pietzuch won 8-3.
IDAHO TRACK AND FIELD: Sophomore Matt Sullivan, a Caldwell High graduate, set a school record in the men's pole vault (17 feet, 5 inches) Saturday to win the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Ariz. Sullivan leads the WAC and is 22nd in the NCAA this outdoor season.
COLLEGE OF IDAHO BASEBALL: The Coyotes (18-18, 9-11 NAIA West) were swept 8-1 and 9-3 by Oregon Tech in Klamath Falls, Ore. The second game was called after five innings because of rain.
