The Meridian School District Board of Trustees has sent a notice of defect to North Star Charter School.
After reviewing the schools financial information, the board issued the notice on Wednesday based upon the schools short-term and long-term lack of financial soundness.
According to a report submitted to the school district by North Star, the school does not have enough money to meet Aprils expenses and faces a $640,000 shortfall by June.
Next, the district will schedule a public meeting within 30 days to determine if the situation can be remedied or if the schools charter should be revoked.
The school district approved North Star's charter in 2003. The school has an annual budget of $4.5 million, approximately 920 students and a staff of 60.
