Army Reserve Pvt. Krestin K. Ballard, Army Pvt. Jordan G. Bell, Army National Guard Pvt. Steven J. Pinto, and Army National Guard Pvt. Kylianne K. Lowe have graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldiers studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, and physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare, bayonet training (drill and ceremony), marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
Ballard is the son of Louis Ballard. He is a 2012 graduate of Mountain View High School in Meridian.
Bell is the son of Jason Bell and Tina Gratton, both of Emmett. He is a 2012 graduate of Emmett High School.
Pinto is the son of Anne Trivette and Thomas Pinto, and grandson of Kenneth Pinto, all of Boise. He is a 2011 graduate of Timberline High School, Boise.
Lowe is the daughter of Kori and Chester Conklin, of Parma, and granddaughter of Sue Anderson, of Middleton. She is a 2012 graduate of Parma High School.
Air Force Airmen Nicholas J. Barrie, Michael A. Lair and Kyle M. Nelson graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
The airmen completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Barrie earned distinction as an honor graduate. He is the son of Michael Barrie of Belle Fourche, S.D., and a 2008 graduate of Mountain Home High School.
Lair is the son of Susanna Lair of Meridian. He is a 2008 graduate of Nixa High School, Mo.
Nelson is the son of Randy Nelson of Boise and Angela Nisbett of Star. He is a 2012 graduate of Centennial High School.
