An old farm outbuilding and wood pile were destroyed by fire Sunday afternoon, but firefighters from Boise and Meridian were able to keep the fire from spreading to a nearby barn and RV parked on the property.
Firefighters were called to a structure fire in the 4300 block of East Overland Road at about 1:30 p.m. The fire sent up a large black plume of smoke, which was visible for miles. Police blocked Overland Road at Cloverdale because fire hoses were across the road to the nearest fire hydrant (on the north side of Overland).
Meridian fire officials are investigating the cause of the fire. Earlier, firefighters were called to a grass fire in the Kuna area.
The fire was reported just before noon in the 1500 block of Lake Hazel. The initial report was a grass fire threatening structures.
A brush rig from Kuna responded and extinguished the fire, an emergency dispatcher said. No other information was immediately available.
