Suspicion of domestic violence sent officers to the Howard Johnson north of Overland Road at 3:19 p.m. Thursday.
About 10:10 p.m., Boise Police officers deployed tear gas in the area of the room in which the man had locked himself, Boise Police spokeswoman Lynn Hightower said. About 20 minutes later, Hightower said, he emerged from the room and surrendered peacefully. Paramedics then evaluated his condition.
The man was arrested, though it wasn't immediately clear which charge or charges he would face. Police received conflicting reports as to whether the man was armed.
No other people were believed to have been harmed, though guests of the hotel were asked to vacate it. The suspected victim, a woman, left the hotel safely.
