About 100 jobs in the Boise office of Supervalu will be eliminated as part of the company's plans to shrink its workforce by 1,100 jobs across the country, according to spokesman Mike Siemienas.
Supervalu, which is based in Minnesota, just sold five grocery chains to a group of investors that controls Boise-based Albertson's LLC. The $3.3 billion sale included all of the Albertsons stores in Idaho and about 850 other stores around the country. Without all of those stores, Supervalu needs fewer corporate and retail-support employees, it said Tuesday.
Supervalu employed about 1,000 people at its Boise corporate offices as of last July. Albertson's LLC and Supervalu said this month that Supervalu would continue to have some employees in Boise, providing technology and accounting services to Albertson's LLC.
Albertson's LLC laid off seven employees in Boise as part of a corporate restructuring related to the Supervalu deal.
