Boise State's Chamberlain reaches NCAA wrestling final

Published: March 22, 2013

Boise State senior wrestler Jason Chamberlain advanced to the NCAA finals Friday in Des Moines, Iowa. He defeated unseeded Drake Houdashelt of Missouri 7-3 in the semifinals and will face No. 1 seed Jordan Oliver of Oklahoma State in Saturday's final.

Oliver beat Boise State’s Andrew Hochstrasser in the 133-pound final two years ago and has rolled through his side of the bracket this year.

Chamberlain is the No. 2 seed at 149 pounds. He beat No. 7 Scott Sakaguchi of Oregon State in the quarterfinals. The match went to overtime — as they often do when those two meet — and Chamberlain secured a 2-1 victory. Chamberlain is 8-1 in college against Sakaguchi, who is the only man to beat him this year.

Boise State has had two wrestling national champions.

Boise State’s George Ivanov (157), J.T. Felix (heavyweight) and Jake Swartz (184) were eliminated from the consolation brackets Friday night needing one more win to earn All-America status.
