BOISE, Idaho — In the race to end the 2013 session, the House will vote Tuesday afternoon on a recently-minted plan to eliminate the personal property tax for about 90 percent of Idaho businesses.

The bill, promoted by the Idaho Association of Counties, will be taken up at the House's afternoon session starting at 3:30 p.m. That's after it was introduced late Monday — and approved in committee early Tuesday morning.

House Majority Caucus Chairman John Vander Woude says there was no reason to wait around, so leadership took the uncommon step of scheduling a near-immediate vote on the $20 million tax break.

It would exempt companies' first $100,000 worth of business equipment, while extending the break to railroads, regulated utilities and pipeline companies.

Senators have said they're skeptical of that last provision.
