Nampa school district may close Sunny Ridge Elementary

Published: March 15, 2013

Nampa School District voters on Tuesday approved a $4.3 million levy to cure the school district's shortfall due to bad accounting.

But that may not be enough to get the district out of its financial straits.

On Monday, the school board will hold a special meeting to consider closing Sunny Ridge Elementary and shifting the majority of students to Lake Ridge Elementary and others to Iowa and Reagan elementary schools this fall.

The board will consider other changes for the 2013/2014 school year including: Moving the Nampa Early Childhood Learning Center, a special education preschool, to Greenhurst Elementary School; a recommendation that New Horizons Dual Language Magnet Elementary School 5th grade students attend the middle school in their attendance area; and a recommendation that parents at New Horizons Elementary provide their students transportation to and from school.

The board meets 7 p.m. in the Nampa High School Little Theater, 203 Lake Lowell Ave.

The public is welcome to attend and provide feedback at the meeting.
