Idaho jobless rate points to slow recovery

Published: March 15, 2013

Idaho’s jobless rate held steady in January at 6.3 percent.

The state’s labor force — those working or looking for work — dropped by 400 to 774,300, which points to Idaho’s slow economic recovery and raises question about whether the state will have a sufficient labor force for a robust expansion, Idaho Department of Labor officials said Friday.

Idaho's unemployed totaled 48,700, down from 58,500 in January 2012.

Idaho’s number of employed people rose by just 100 between December and January to 725,600 the smallest December to January increase outside of the recession and the recession years in the 1980s.

The nation’s jobless rate was 7.8 percent in January.
