44-year-old Boise man accused of sexually abusing 16-year-old

Shawn D. McFarlane is being held in the Ada County Jail on a $100,000 bond after Boise police say he had illegal sexual contact with a 16-year-old earlier this month.

A preliminary hearing for McFarlane on a charge of sexual battery of a minor between 16 and 17 years old is now set for March 25 in front of 4th District Magistrate Theresa Gardunia.

Boise police began their investigation after contacted by a third party earlier this month. Police say they have evidence the 44-year-old McFarlane had illegal sexual contact with the teen at an undisclosed Boise area business on March 2. Police say the McFarlane and the teen are well known to each other but did not define their relationship, or say if the illegal sexual contact occurred while the business was open.

Police say they developed the evidence needed to arrest McFarlane Friday. McFarlane made his initial court appearance Monday.

The crime of sexual battery of a minor between the ages of 16 and 17 is punishable by up to life in prison.
