What's the issue?
Officials say the Nampa School District's revenue shortfall was the result of a series of budgeting and accounting errors during the past two years.
A judge recently approved the district's ability to borrow money to meet expenses for the rest of this school year.
To help pay back the loan, the district is asking voters to approve a one-year supplemental levy on Tuesday.
What will it cost?
District officials say property owners' tax rates will stay the same if the levy is approved with a simple majority vote.
"The board's plan is to keep next year's rate the same - pass or fail," said Nampa School District spokeswoman Allison Westfall. If the levy passes, the board would refinance construction bonds to keep the rate steady, she said.
If the levy does not pass, the tax rate would stay as projected, no refinancing would occur, and "the district would need to cut more," Westfall said.
Nampa has the lowest levy rate of the Treasure Valley's seven largest school districts - Boise, Meridian, Kuna, Caldwell, Middleton and Vallivue are the others.
What else is on Tuesday's ballot?
Middleton School District residents will be asked to continue an annual $250,000 plant-and-facilities levy that expires in a year.
Taxes will not increase if the levy is approved, and the levy's duration will be extended 10 years.
Both the supplemental and facility levies require a simple majority vote.
