The 35th annual United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association National Championships feature nearly 100 men's and women's teams competing in alpine, cross country and freestyle skiing, and snowboarding. The event runs Tuesday through Saturday at venues in the Ketchum and Sun Valley area. The College of Idaho women's alpine team is making its 14th appearance at nationals in the past 15 years, while the men are making their first trip since 2009. The Coyotes have won a combined 28 USCSA team titles, including three men's freestyle and two women's freestyle championships in 2011, while C of I skiers and snowboarders have combined for 17 individual titles. Competition begins Tuesday with the women's alpine giant slalom, the Nordic sprint and the snowboard halfpipe.
NORTHWEST NAZARENE MEN'S BASKETBALL: Seniors Kenny Jones and Jonathan Hawkins, and sophomore Kevin Rima received Great Northwest Athletic Conference honorable mention for the 2012-13 season. Jones, a transfer from UCLA, was fifth in the GNAC in scoring (15.7 per game) and third in assists (4.4). Hawkins is the best free-throw shooter in NCAA Division II at 94.1 percent, and Rima was the league's top rebounder with 8.2 per game.
C OF I MEN'S BASKETBALL: Taylor Pruett was named to the All-Cascade Conference team. The 6-foot-7 junior forward averaged 13 points and seven rebounds per game. Junior forward Antonio Garrett was an honorable mention selection.
C OF I WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Vallivue High alum Katelin Shannon was named the Cascade Conference co-defensive player of the year and earned a spot on the all-conference team. Shannon, a 5-foot-4 senior guard, led the conference in steals (84) and shared the accolade with Corban center Tara VanWeerdhuizen. Felicity Jones also made the all-league team for the Coyotes (21-8), who open NAIA Division II Tournament play at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday against Oklahoma Wesleyan. Senior forward Laura Geis received honorable mention.
