A Nampa man has been identified as a suspect in a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured the driver of a scooter Saturday.

Daniel Chavez-Palomo, 35, was booked into the Canyon County Jail today on a felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident, as well as counts of no drivers license and no insurance.

Nampa police Chief Craig Kingsbury spotted the suspect's vehicle in the 1000 block of 9th Ave. after taking a detour to look for it while on his way home for lunch, police say. Police had obtained video of the crash, which occurred about 7:45 p.m. Saturday at 12th Ave Road and East Sherman Avenue and say it provided a good description of the car, a Buick Regal.

Officers matched evidence left at the crash to the car spotted by Kingsbury and identified Chavez-Palomo as the driver. He was arrested in the 300 block of Holly in Nampa and will appear before a judge Tuesday at 1 p.m.

Police say the scooter was traveling south on 12th Ave Road when the northbound car turned in front of it, then fled after the collision. The driver of the scooter remains in stable condition at a local hospital.
