RACE TO ROBIE CREEK

To be fair, there needsto be a lottery system

It has become almost impossible to get an entry online for Robie Creek because it always sells out in minutes. If we used a lottery system, there could be X number of chances and everyone would have to pay $1 for the chance to win a place in the race.

For example, there could be 20,000 chances sold for the 2,100 spaces. If your number was selected you would still have to pay the entry fee for the race.

It seems like the race has become a business rather than a chance for anyone to enter and face the challenge.

BOISE STATE

Bleymaier deserves to have name on building

Kudos to President Bob Kustra for honoring Larry Williams and Jerry Caven's wishes to have the Broncos' new football complex named after Gene Bleymaier.

One of the great ADs in the country for 29 years while at Boise State, Gene directed, orchestrated and built up Boise State student-athletes and athletics to the highest level where we are now.

Gene gave us the world-renowned blue turf that helped put Boise State on the map, had the vision and guts to take us from Division I-AA status to the next level, the foresight in selecting great football coaches such as Dirk Koetter, Dan Hawkins and Chris Petersen that sent us on a meteoric rise to the top of the FBS, and along the way made us the media darlings that the rest of the nation wants to see.

Not only did Gene develop Boise State's athletic competitiveness by moving us through the Big Sky, Big West, WAC and Mountain West, he did it by building first-class athletic facilities such as the Caven-Williams indoor practice facility, the Stueckle Sky Center, his newly named footballcomplex, and the development of Dona Larsen Park for track and field and softball.

Thank you, Gene.

What programs did Bleymaier 'destroy?'

In regard to Mr. Turpin's letter, Feb. 24, he missed the published reason for the (Gene Bleymaier) dismissal.

As I recall, as recent as the day of the announcement, it was due to the non-compliance issue.

If Mr. Turpin was not part of the decision-making process, which is likely, then he would not have the information regarding the dismissal. I would challenge him to provide the facts related to the programs Mr. Bleymaier destroyed, as well as naming those programs.

More basketball games need to be on television

Relocating to Boise four years ago, and being an avid sports fan, I was excited to immediately become a BSU football and basketball fan. It is great to attend the home games and watch the away football games on TV, but what happened to the basketball games?

I attend as many of the home games as I can, but it is really disappointing and unfortunate to have to listen to the away games on the radio. Come on - what's up with that?

Because the Broncos aren't a nationally ranked team (yet!), I understand why they aren't getting national or regional TV coverage - but it would be nice if those of us fans here in Idaho could watch their games. Is it strictly for financial reasons that the games aren't shown on TV?

Coach Rice and this young team are trying to build excitement for their outstanding program, but how can anyone get excited about a team they can't even watch? I am hoping this changes in the 2013-14 season.

"The Journey to the Tourney" isn't over for this Broncos team.
