Revised figures brighten Idaho’s jobless rate

Published: March 1, 2013

Idaho’s average unemployment rate in 2012 was 7.1 percent, down three-tenths of a percentage point from the original estimate, the Idaho Department of Labor said Friday.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics lowered the rate as part of its annual review of data at the beginning of each year to incorporate more complete job data.. Numbers dating back to 2008 were reassessed by the bureau.

The state unemployment rate fell from 8.5 percent to 6.3 percent between July 2011 and the end of 2012. Initial estimates were 8.9 percent to 6.6 percent. The report also shows little growth in the labor force in Idaho during 2012.

Idaho had fewer than 50,000 unemployed people in the state in December, the lowest number since February 2009, based on revised figures. The earlier estimate was 50,800.
