Police arrest 25-year-old Meridian man for dealing after finding pound of pot in his home

Published: March 1, 2013

Joseph “Choi” Bonawitz is being held in the Ada County Jail on a felony charge of delivery of a controlled substance after police say they found almost a pound of marijuana in his northwest Meridian home Wednesday.

Police say there is evidence the 25-year-old Bonawitz was selling pot at the house, located in the 2500 block fo Rebecca Way (in the Cherry Lane/Ten Mile Road neighborhood), for several months.

Meridian police began their investigation into Bonawitz in January after getting a lead from another case. Meridian officers served a warrant on Bonawitz’ home just before 1 p.m. Wednesday. In addition to the marijuana, police say they found packaging materials, scales, and other paraphernalia used in the sale of drugs inside the home, according to reports.

Police arrested Bonawitz and booked into the jail Thursday afternoon.

He will make his initial court appearance Friday.

The crime of delivery of marijuana is punishable by up to five years in prison.
