Stevie Hughey finished second in the 50-yard freestyle (22.94 seconds) and Sydney Johansen took third with a school-record time in the 200 individual medley (1:59.79) to lead the Broncos on the second day of the Mountain West Swimming and Diving Championships in San Antonio. Lexi Pfeiffer also set a school record in 3-meter diving (317.31), where she finished 10th. The Broncos are in fifth after eight of 21 events with 165.5 points; San Diego State leads with 291.5. The meet continues Friday.
IDAHO INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD: Sophomore Johanna Hocketstaller finished second in the womens pentathlon with a career-best score of 3,733 at WAC Championships on Thursday in Albuquerque, N.M. Idaho freshman Drew Thompson is fifth after the first day of the mens heptathlon.
COLLEGE OF IDAHO SKIING: Led by a sixth-place finish by Miyu Nakamura, the womens alpine team finished fourth in a giant slalom race at the USCSA Western Regional Championships at Red Lodge Mountain in Montana. With the finish, the Coyotes are poised to qualify for the USCSA National Championships on March 3-9 in Sun Valley. The mens alpine teams hit the course Friday for their giant slalom qualifier, with both men and women closing out the championships Saturday with slalom runs.
