The Meridian City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved holding a special election in May to increase the number of council seats from four to six.
On Feb. 4 the Nampa City Council voted unanimously to hold a special election in May to add two more seats to its four-member council.
Meridian and Nampa voters will get to vote on their citys respective proposals on May 21.
If voters approve the change, the new council seats would be on the ballot in November.
Idaho law allows municipal government to have either four or six council members.
Caldwell and Boise already have six-member councils.
