Sheriff: 20-year-old Boise man caught with a pound of pot for sale

Published: February 20, 2013

Lawson James Schimpf is being held in the Ada County Jail on felony charges of trafficking marijuana and possession of a controlled substance after Ada County Sheriff’s deputies say he agreed to sell a pound of pot to undercover officer Tuesday.

Deputies say they found over 440 grams of marijuana, in several plastic bags, in Schimpf’s car Tuesday afternoon. Officials say the 20-year-old Schimpf made arrangements to sell the pot to the undercover officer. Deputies then arrested Schimpf at a parking lot on Five Mile Road before that deal could take place, according to reports.

Officials also say an undercover officer made a smaller marijuana purchase from Schimpf at an earlier date, which is why he is charged with two felonies.

The 20-year-old Schimpf will make his initial court appearance Wednesday afternoon.

The crime of trafficking in marijuana is punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
