A 17-year-old Emmett driver who walked away from a nasty crash Saturday night with only minor injuries was cited for reckless driving, according to Idaho State Police.
Police say Wesley S. Russell was texing while driving, and traveling about 20 miles per hour above the posted speed limit of 30. Police were called to the crash scene just before 10 p.m.
Russell was driving west on Emmett's Vanderdasson Road in a 1997 Ford F150 pickup when he failed to negotiate a curve, police said. The pickup left the road on a curve and hit a utility pole. It got caught up in wires on the pole, and that flipped the vehicle onto its top into some trees.
Russell was wearing a seatbelt, and airbags in the vehicle deployed, according to police.
The accident knocked out power to the area. Idaho Power was called to the scene to replace the pole.
