Eagle City Councilman Norm Semanko resigns

Published: February 12, 2013

Eagle City Councilman Norm Semanko has announced he is resigning effective March 15.

“With the recent death of my father and the increasing demands of my personal and professional life, my priorities have necessarily changed,” said Semanko in a prepared statement he read to the Council Tuesday night.

Semanko said he is stepping down immediately as council president. His resignation also terminates his posts on the Eagle Urban Renewal Agency and the Spring Valley Community Infrastructure District boards.

The mayor and council will select a replacement to fill Semanko’s seat until the November election.

Semanko was appointed to the Eagle City Council in January 2008 and elected to the position in November 2009.

“I will always be grateful for the opportunity to have given something back to the community through public service. As former Interior Secretary Franklin Knight Lane said, ‘A public office is not a job, it is an opportunity to do something for the public.’ I hope that I have done some measure of good while occupying the office,” concluded Semanko in his statement.
