Anthony Cruz Calvillo is being held in the Ada County Jail on $200,000 bond after Garden City police say he attacked another man with an 18-inch machete Monday afternoon.

A preliminary hearing for Calvillo on felony aggravated battery and use of a deadly weapon charges is now set for Feb. 26.

Police say the 21-year-old Calvillo got into an argument with a 41-year-old man before attacking him with the knife.

The victim had lacerations to his hand and fingers, according to police. He was treated and released by Ada County Paramedics after refusing transport to a hospital.

The argument occurred about 4:49 p.m. Monday on the 200 block of E. 44th Street, according to Garden City police.

When police arrived, they found the victim but not the man who attacked him with the machete. Witnesses told police to go to the 500 block of E. 44th Street, which is where officers found and eventually arrested Calvillo.

Police also charged 19-year-old Hope Deborah Barbee of Meridian with a misdemeanor charge of providing false information to police officers.

Police say Barbee was with Calvillo during the attack and then intentionally hid him from officers.

The crime of aggravated battery is punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
