Go Do It: Fat Tuesday events

Published: February 8, 2013

If you need an excuse to go a little crazy before you get your Lent on — or even if you don’t — here’s a look at the plans bars have for Fat Tuesday, Feb. 12:

• You’ll find out why Rocci Johnson is Boise’s queen of Fat Tuesday when you head over to Humpin’ Hannah’s, 621 W. Main St.,Boise, for “The Return of Mardi Gras Mayhem!” From 7 p.m. to close, you’ll find door prizes, DJs, beads, drink specials and Johnson, in an extravagant costume, with her band on stage. $5 at the door.

• Bring your beads to China Blue, Dirty Little Roddy’s and Main Street Bistro for the annual “Mardi Gras Block Party” at 6th and Main streets in Boise. You’ll find a $5 cover that’s good for all three clubs, and $3 shots all night long. Oh, and there’s an interesting door prize. BoisesBestBars.com.

• Fat Tuesday will be bulging with the blues from 6 to 10 p.m. at Joe’s Sunshine Lounge, 1115 N. Curtis Road, Boise. The Boise Blues Society will present Jake Leg, Grape & the Grain and Juke Daddys, all bluesing it up to benefit the society’s “Blues in the Schools” program. $5 suggested donation at the door. BoiseBlues.org.

• Yes, they celebrate Fat Tuesday in Star. Head over to the “Mardi Gras Party” at Helina Marie’s, 11053 W. State St. You’ll find beads, masks, costumes, food, music and dancing to New Orleans jazz from 6 to 10 p.m. $10 at the door. HelinaMaries.com.

• Hungry? Lucky Fins in Meridian is doing a special gator-and-crawfish-packed menu. See Food Notes on page 21 for more.
