ONE-TIME EVENTS

Local author book launch: Tuesday, Feb. 5, 6 p.m. Local author (and former bookseller for Rediscovered Books) Miriam Forster will be in Boise for the launch of her debut young adult novel, “City of a Thousand Dolls,” at Rediscovered Books in Downtown Boise.

Boise Novel Orchard: Tuesday, Feb. 5, 6:30-8 p.m. Join this local writing circle where challenges and camaraderie are the backdrop for this caffeine-fueled evening of social writing

Grossvision! Wednesday, Feb. 6, 8-11 p.m. Josh Gross is a local musician, standup comedian, author, screenwriter and playwright (the winner of several national awards). There will be a screening and discussion of his three favorite films, “The Dog House,” “The Sundae Rider” and “The Lost Van Gogh” at The Red Room, 1519 Main St., Boise. You must be at least 21 to attend and there’s a $2 donation at the door. Gross will also be making a major announcement regarding his next project.

Teen Writers’ Group: Thursday, Feb. 7, 7–8 p.m., Boise Public Library Main Branch.

Saturday Storytime: Saturday, Feb. 9, 11 a.m. Read stories that focus on Valentine’s Day and making a valentine for your sweetie. Barnes & Noble, Boise.

Story Time with Justeen: Saturday, Feb. 9, 11 a.m.-12 p.m. This is a story time filled with worlds of adventure and excitement. Hyde Park Books, Boise.

Sherry Cann’s Writers’ Critique Group: Sunday, Feb. 10, 6:30–8:30 p.m., Smoky Mountain Pizza, ParkCenter, Boise.

Hillview Book Club: Monday, Feb 11, 9:30 a.m. Come in and grab a drink from the cafe along with your favorite snack and get cozy to chat about the month’s book of choice. Barnes & Noble, Boise.

Partners in Crime: Tuesday, Feb. 12, 7 p.m. Interested in reading, writing or publishing in the fields of mystery, suspense, or true crime? Stop by and visit this group; newcomers are always welcome. Barnes & Noble Boise.

Idaho Authors Community: Monday, Feb. 11, 7-9 p.m., Maui Wowi, Meridian.

The Cabin Presents Literary Luminary Anthony Doerr: Feb. 12, Egyptian Theatre, Boise. As part of the annual literary series, Readings & Conversations, The Cabin welcomes author Anthony Doerr. He is the award-winning author of four books. His numerous accolades include a Guggenheim Fellowship, an NEA Fellowship, four O. Henry prizes, the 2010 Story Prize and two Pushcart Prizes. The program will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be followed by audience questions and a book signing. Tickets are available at the Egyptian Theatre box office and online at egyptiantheatre.net

Second annual Writers in the Attic Competition: Now through Friday, Feb. 22, submission will be accepted for the writing competition. This year’s theme is “detour.” Stories will be blind-judged by a local literary notable and published as part of the Writers in the Attic 2013 anthology.
