Caldwell police ticket driver for speeding after he smashed car into insurance office

Published: February 1, 2013

Caldwell police say the 20-year-old Nampa man who drove his car into the American Family Insurance building Friday morning does have car insurance — although it is with a different company. Looks like he is going to need it. The damage to the building is estimated to be in the $50,000 range.

Carlos Velazquez was cited for speeding after Caldwell police say he drove his car into the American Family Insurance building near the intersection of Laster Lane and E. Cleveland Boulevard just after 7:30 a.m. Friday.

Police say Velazquez was driving a 2004 Ford Focus westbound on Cleveland Boulevard when he tried to change lanes and lost control of the car, which went off the road, hit a stop sign, went over landscaping, and across a parking lot before crashing into the building.

No one was inside the building at the time, and Velazquez was not injured, police say.
