Sens. Mike Crapo and Jim Risch and Rep. Mike Simpson, all R-Idaho, are asking the Department of Agriculture to recognize Greek yogurt under the governments MyPlate nutrition guidelines.
In a letter to Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, the lawmakers also request a government pilot program to allow schools to receive credit for protein content when serving Greek yogurt.
The requests follow Decembers opening in Twin Falls of a Chobani Inc. yogurt plant.
