Published: January 21, 2013

A man target shooting with a BB gun in his Mountain Home apartment accidentally shot his friend, police say.

A ricocheting pellet struck the 56-year-old man in the back of the neck, according to the Mountain Home Police Department. It penetrated his skin, but police say his injury isn't believed to be life threatening. He was transported to Elmore Medical Center.

Gregory H. Smith, 57, was cited for injury by discharge of a firearm.

Police responded to Smith's home at 405 N. 2nd East about 4:15 p.m. Smith said he and his friends were target shooting when the man was struck.

Police say alcohol may have been a factor.
