A fuel tanker fire is blocking eastbound Interstate 84 east of Boise.
Witnesses reported large flames at the fire at milepost 68 near the Boise Port of Entry. The closure begins at milepost 59 near the Eisenman Road exit.
The fire was reported at 4:09 p.m., according to dispatchers.
Crews say the fuel had burned off and they are beginning clean-up efforts as of 5:30 p.m., but only the freeway's shoulder opened around 6:21 p.m. and was the only area allowing traffic through as of 10 p.m. Eastbound I-84 is expected to be closed for an extended period of time, according to Romeo Gervais, Boise's deputy chief fire marshal.
Motorists are reporting extensive traffic backups and long waits.
