An 18-year-old mother and her 20-year-old boyfriend were arrested Thursday after Boise police found them and a baby unresponsive in their home with more than an ounce of marijuana.
The child was taken into protective custody by the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare.
Police found Britany Renea Korom and Joshua Ray Pedroza asleep in a bedroom in the 10000 block of West Cory Street about 1:42 p.m. while responding to a report from a citizen who reported finding a man, woman and infant unconscious in the home.
Police say it took them several tries to awake Korom and Pedroza "who very slowly regained consciousness," according to a news release.
Officers were called by a citizen who had gone inside the house and found a man, woman and an infant child all seemingly unresponsive. Boise Officers saw drug paraphernalia in the bedroom as well as a mason jar filled with bags of marijuana. The pot weighed 44 grams, which is about an ounce and a half.
The baby was found naked in a portable crib in the front room. The child was treated at a hospital for what police described as severe diaper rash. Korom was booked into jail on a felony charge of injury to a child and misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Pedroza was booked on charges of possession of marijuana and probation violations.
