Sugar daddy hunting ground? Sun Valley ranks 6th in N. America

Published: January 12, 2013

Says who? The InfoStream Group, founded by MIT graduate and self-professing nerd Brandon Wade, polled 6,500 male members of seekingarrangement.com, a dating website for well-heeled men seeking young, attractive women. They ranked Sun Valley the sixth-best ski resort on the continent.

According to what criteria? Ski terrain was the most important, followed by accommodations, “après-ski options” and accessibility. In keeping with the well-heeled theme, the respondents said the least important criterion is price.

What kind of dating is this? Well-off men form arrangements with young women, often college students. Typically, these “sugar daddies” pay their “sugar babies” allowances averaging $3,000 per month, InfoStream spokeswoman Jennifer Gwynn said. One testimonial, attributed to “College Sophomore,” had this to say: “Unlike other cash-strapped students, I am pampered with expensive gifts. My sugar daddy is the sweetest man I know. He is my mentor, my benefactor and my lover.”

How does Sun Valley feel about this? Marketing Director Jack Sibbach laughed when told about the survey. There’s more to the ski resort than sugar daddies and sugar babies, he said. “We’re not only for the rich and famous,” Sibbach said. “You, too, can pick up girls at Sun Valley.”
