Sunday's Child: Meet Mercedes, age 15

Published: January 6, 2013

SUNDAY’S CHILD

“I’m a country girl. I grew up on a feedlot, where I helped with outdoor chores, driving heavy equipment and helping with the animals. I would love to live and work with horses and participate in rodeo events with a family. I would also like to go to culinary school to be a chef. I love cooking!

“I would like to have a family with a mother and a dad who are supportive and patient.”

Mercedes could thrive with an experienced parent or parents who set clear boundaries and are consistent in recognizing accomplishments as well as holding family members accountable when they step over those lines. Her confidence will expand with the support of an experienced single mom or a traditional couple with good communication skills.

Parent(s) should have a plan for accessing community services, which might include individual and/or family counseling.

Mercedes is a good student, a people-pleaser and a hard-worker. Her affinity for animals would enhance her life.
